Defibrillator Accessories You Need

Posted on

With today's modern technology, you can have a defibrillator, such as the Zoll AED brand, in your home for medical emergencies. A defibrillator is a medical instrument used to jumpstart the heart when it has stopped during a traumatic event, such as a heart attack or other injury.

You should receive training on how to use your defibrillator either by your doctor or a specialist who supplies these medical tools for the home. You should also consider the following accessories to your defibrillator, so you have what you need in the event of an emergency. Your Zoll AED or another defibrillator specialist will assist you.

First aid kit

You should have a stocked first aid kit close to your defibrillator or in the same carrying case. This first aid kit should contain bandages, gauze, medical scissors, ointments, over-the-counter pain medications like aspirin, and a charged basic cell phone for dialing for emergency services.

Batteries

Always store extra batteries with your defibrillator. When the unit is portable for immediate use, you want to make sure you have the power needed to give the medical appliance the ability to work. If you have to search your home for batteries in an emergency, you lose valuable life-saving time. Keep batteries with the defibrillator at all times.

Pads

Defibrillators work by sending currents to the heart through the skin to jump-start the vital organ. Your defibrillator has small pads on it to protect the skin against burns and scarring when the unit is used. Have extra pads stored with the defibrillator, so when the unit is in use, there are clean pads for safety.

Gloves

Rubber gloves should be stored with the defibrillator to prevent the spread of bacteria and contagions. In addition to gloves, consider nasal and face masks or hair nets to store with the unit as well to create a cleaner environment in an emergency.

Wall case

Have a portable case to keep your defibrillator with you when you are traveling. When you are at home, invest in a clear wall case to store the unit in that can be easily accessed from the main areas of the home. Store your defibrillator within easy reach in a main room, such as the kitchen, dining room, or living area. Make sure to keep the unit out of reach of children but within easy access for adults. The right accessories will make your defibrillator more beneficial in your home.
